Alarm wing-clipped bird (3)

The best I can come up with is MAVIS (the thrush) - the M and S leaving AVI. I can find pretty obscure links to AVI and alarm systems but it seems far from being common knowledge or parlance.

Any better suggestions?

Perhaps PANIC is alarm which when wing-clipped leaves ANI a tropical American bird (according to Chambers).
