For me a real stinker this week and some parsing that’s taken a lot of hard thinking. But I just can’t decode 47d!

Of course it’s MERLOT and presumably REM is the rock band picked up? But the rest?

"Mentioned" down = low, as in the pronunciation of Merlot.
Under = below, the reversal of REM which you correctly got.
