Gentle by PK's standards. Two Maori Ninas. 2nd row means "guardian", and the 6th is "yellow eyed penguin"

I’ve lost track is this his 50th or 51st? The Nina’s should relate to the number.

Here is the explanation from Pangakupu…

“ HOIHO can have a macron, which changes its meaning. I can’t remember which way round it is but one is the penguin and one the horse. You need the horse – a ‘horse guardian’ is about as close as I can get to ‘Groom’, while ROTO (lurking in row 14} gives you Lake. And Groom Lake is better known as Area 51, for puzzle 51. (52 is easier.) “

Yes, gentle but 16a is my clue of the month so far and 21d extremely good (granted I'm American).

I didn't know about the numerical indicators.
Don't generally search for P's Ninas, but saw the top one quickly. Considered the lower, but rejected and didn't research...it seemed too much like Die Walkure ("Heijotoho") to be Maori.🤣
