Ianwil, I think 18d works if 'with' is just a link word. "Arrived", in the sense of "winter has arrived"

10d - it's a humorous cryptic type clue, as in if one works hard one might get a (blue) "plaque" by way of recognition, but if you're a 10d you'll also come across some plaque.

At least that's how I read it.

Re 6d, I think Mattrom and I are basically saying the same thing, hence my mention of children and her mention of birth.

Thank you Brendan and Mattrom, 6d is rather good now you've explained it. I think 10d is a bit weak though - it's usually an assistant to the 10d that does that - or at least it used to be in days when this part of the UK still had that particular service available!
