Fairly simple solve followed by a rather tedious list search to fill in the blanks.

Has Chalicea set for the Spectator before? My search didn’t turn up anything.

I’m not seeing the last four letters of 32a which presumably relate to the benevolent creature. Hints welcome.

And I’m wondering if 36d should be “star in constellation” rather than “star and constellation”. Chambers and Collins suggest so.

32a 5-letter "bury" + 3-letter "benevolent creature" + 1-letter "emotion at heart".

This does seem to be Chalicea's first outing in The Spectator

Jono, I think this is Chalicea's first appearance in the Spectator. I think the benevolent creature is a three letter crossword favourite (the other letter is from the 'at heart' bit).

PS Hope this makes sense, I didn't print off a copy.
