Just checking if 12 is two words (3,3). I have a contemporary work I wasn’t familiar with. It wouldn’t have bothered me except that 39 is shown as (4,2).

That's what I have. I also was unfamiliar with the work, but hadn't noticed the difference in how the clue for 39 is shown. There's an apostrophe in another answer that is not referenced, not that I mind!
