Great to find AZED this week. My only query is the parsing of 2d. "Coarse linen ma cut for copper". Last letter must be N. I've seen the referral to Hards. D an old copper? But what about " ma"?

Hi Alto,
It’s a six letter “old criminal slang” (per Chambers) word for a constable, with the letters MA removed to give an equally obscure coarse linen fabric.
