I feel a bit silly posting about such a short answer but it's bugging me:

24D Wrong leader for strenuous hikes (3)

I can only assume the answer is UPS (= hikes) but I just don't see how the rest of the clue works.

Any suggestions?

All I can think of is Up = wrong, what's up, what's wrong and add the first letter, leader, of strenuous.

This could be wildly wrong!

Something is up can mean something is wrong

Chambers has up = amiss (hence wrong)

Thank you all. I'd been racking my brain trying to work out how up and wrong could be synonyms but had never thought of What's up! Anyway, I can rest easy now.
