This normally occupies 30-odd minutes over a glass of something refreshing. But this time either I’m getting thicker or something is up. 6A is the problem. 6A: Country mostly invaded by force repeatedly. WxFxLx. Waffle fits (Wale(s) round FF), but where’s the definition?

Jockie, I don't see or do this puzzle - but is it one of those with a message in the preamble, 'X number of entries are clued by wordplay only'? I've seen that in other crosswords.

Alas, of preamble there is none.

Thanks, Jockie, that was all I could think of (and I know solvers have occasionally overlooked or not noticed such messages before). It, the definition will have to remain a mystery!

I suppose that if you WAFFLE you might be saying things repeatedly, but it's extremely loose, and repeatedly would be doing double duty.
