Grunger, glad you're all sorted now.

If a week is a long time in politics, for me eight days is an absolute lifetime where themed puzzles are concerned. Once one numbered puzzle, one week, is out of the way...it's as if it never existed.

Interesting about the snail. I found that too, and had **ail so assumed that would be it. Eventually found Tomlinson. Excellent puzzle. Never really thought about how email started.

I only do the EV and the times Mon-Fri, so a lot fewer than you. The EV subjects tend to stick in the memory. I loved that Niagara Falls one, which I solved apart from the "cat". Even with your helpful hints I could not get that. Hope things are well with you. Not seen much on the Pedants thread recently. Grunger commented there on YOUR clue in the EV a few weeks ago.

Thanks. I only do a few a week, but getting better at EVs as I have just finished yesterdays. No highlighting, thank goodness!

I often forget to look in on Pedants United. I had a look and saw Grunger's mention, but I couldn't work out which EV I should go back to, to see 'my' clue.

Jigjag, I don't do the Monday - Friday Times puzzle now, I think the weekend crosswords wear me out - I need a rest when a new week starts!

I do like one aspect of themed puzzles - for every theme I detest or find boring, someone someone will say, 'Ooh, I have always loved...' The converse is equally true.

The clue in EV 1746 was "Convict with information about Ms Malone getting back warts (11)" and the wordplay delivered an extra letter (an L).
