All done but 27acr seems dodgy to me. It seems to be a perfectly good clue for an 8-letter word, but that 2-letter omission can't be right. I think I know the actual intended answer, but I cannot see how the wordplay jibes with that.

The wordplay in 27a leads to a 7 letter answer, so only one letter is removed

Thanks, Quisling, that's what I've got and I feared I had gone terribly wong somehow!

I did find the removals quite tricky, especially as several of the longer strings had a few options. So I was pleased when it all tallied at the end. Interesting puzzle.

I have a full grid except for 36a. Title is clear.

And...I have only identified 17 of the 18 overlong answers. I know what three letters the 18th should deliver but so far can't see it in 36a.

Is 36a one of the 18 or am I barking up the wrong tree?
