You can certainly contend it's too hard for the Everyman slot but it's not "awful", the clueing is pretty good.

Well I enjoyed it. Puzzled though by how 19d parses (assuming I have the answer right of course). The "not back" bit seems strange.

You're not the only one, I only finished the NE corner this morning! I found it a really difficult one, but no complaints, and satisfying in the end.
