Good evening,

Can I please ask for help with a multi-word clue?

7d, 27a, 30a, 1d….

Flash Gordon in on the talks with Flash liquid to produce a novel quote

(2,4,3,6,3,3,3,4)

Many of the other clues appear to s answer, so if you can’t get it how do you solve the others?

It's an anagram, but I didn't solve it from that. Think Douglas Adams.

I never read any of the book(s?) in which the quote featured...strangely, though the work is a favourite among geeks.

I *was* able to fill in the quote, though it required solving almost all of the non-quote clues.
Several of the short words were easy to guess. The key element was 1d, which is thematic and thus not too hard to intuit from a few other solutions.

To be honest, I was lazy and never bothered to figure out the long anagram.

It was a six-part "trilogy", geeker. In fact Eoin Colfer has added some more to Adams's, I think.

Thanks, chris. I really ought to read some of the series, as it seems like my kind of thing. References to it (including themes) are fairly common in cryptic land.

Quite by accident I heard the radio series from the start (it was on really too late for me). Along with many others, I was instantly hooked.
