I'm having a fair bit of trouble parsing solutions on this one.

34a Pay too much on account of fight involving US agents (14)
Overcompensate?

5d Running watch confiscated by rising military leader from time to time (2,8)
On occasion?

Hi again SB. You are correct with both of those, but you probably won't like the way they parse. (I certainly didn't!)

34a: On account of = OVER
Fight = COMPETE
US agents = NSA (National Security Agency)

5d: Running = ON
Watch - CASIO (meh!!!)
Rising military leader = NCO, reversed

Like the others I think the DOORJAMB is a poor clue.
It was the only possible answer but I'd never have got the double defn

And CASIO for watch??
ROLEX yes, TAG yes. OMEGA possibly
But CASIO ......?

On the other hand I will accept REFORM for party, just as I would accept NAZI, FASCIST, NF, BNP - they're all the same.

It is a pity that we never see an official explanation of these dubious clues
