Helveticus - several of the words which fit in 2D fail the “different in each case” test. I can find only 2, and am plumping for the native habitation.

While I'm inclined to agree with Malone and put up with asps 'creeping' around Colombia, I also side with Helveticus in this case - far too many unclueds to allow fair and full solving...

Thanks, Hounds. In view of all the mistakes Doc has let through in the past year or so - mostly in his own puzzles - I seldom bother checking that the entries match up with the preamble. Previous experience shows that Doc's intentions might be good, the results themselves...?

yes, I really think 14 unclued lights is OTT. Especially when they impinge on each other - as with 26/30/32 and 27/34/42. I think I have 6 fill-ins that rhyme and one more that looks as if it could have others to rhyme with it. But I "haven't a clue" about 27, 34/26 or 30. And I was going to comment much earlier on the Cambodian howler but just accepted it as par for the course ...

I want to put 34a/2d as one of the two word unclueds but it doesn't help with anything else.

If you pair 34ac/2dn, the rest falls into place although I haven’t checked against the preamble. I have an acute accent in 26 dn which is not mentioned.

Mine are definitely not different in each case. Don’t see how they can be.

By “different in each case” I’m assuming that means that the doubles in each light are different, not that all doubles occur only once. If that’s right then heehee isn’t allowed in 2. I have 26/34 as a possible answer, but if that is correct then 30 is
-O-HE-N, and I can see nothing which works.

And, despite it being a common phrase, 33 isn’t in BRB, so that’s another error from Doc.
