I am finding this crossword very confusing. Can anyone help me with hints about 1A and 9A?

Brendan, it's easily done - by some people...

PS I was flattered when someone made the same error last week - I can't remember who it was - but twice in such a short period of time made me feel I should be on here a bit less!
