15A: "One trying to get copper coin from the past."

I have otherwise completed this puzzle, but can't help wondering if there is an error in this clue. There are two solutions I'm contemplating that both mean the same value old British coin. One matches the wordplay ('one trying') but not the crossing letter from 2 down; the other fits with 2 down, but I cannot see how the wordplay gives that solution (using Chambers and Bradford's). Both possibilities fit with the other crossers from 3 and 14 down.

What am I missing?! I can be more specific about my two solutions if needed...

Twit,my answer worked ok for me. It just seemed a double definition - the first one being someone 'trying to get copper/a shade of brown' and the other being a coin from the past. I don't have my copy, but it fitted in with other entries.

Ah of course! Thanks Malone. Yes, I should have said double definition, rather than wordplay. I was reading the first definition as 'one trying', rather than 'one trying to get copper'.

Have completed the puzzle but struggling with the parsing of 23a (two-thirds nine). The surface reading is obvious but I can’t help but think there is more going on with the Roman numerals for nine… I just can’t make the whole thing add up. Can anyone put me out of my misery?! Thank you!
