How to parse the answer to 21ac
" Bush method of taking down a dictator, not hard- "Sonofabitch is dishonest " (5,3,7). Originally I had "smoke and mirrors" which was associated with President Bush and Iraq. That caused me some problems. Having eventually got to an different answer that fits (short....) but can't see how it passes with the clue apart from a vague association with 'bush'? Any explanation or is it just a naff clue?

I think it’s okay if the definition is the first word, as in pubic hair. Nine-letter word for what secretaries use, dropping the middle h, and then dog tells porkies. I won’t comment on naffness

JKtweets, even though I was happy to help with the answer to 21 A, I simply couldn't be bothered doing anything about the parsing! This is normal for me, as I dislike some of the rude stuff and dislike some of the naff stuff. I've been doing the Private Eye crossword for decades and find it easier not to dwell on some/many clues.

Sorry to mention it but SECURE has been given as the answer to 1a so 3d begins with R, I think REVEL meaning a party. EVER is reversed to REVE with L for left.
