Knopfler's father, Erwin, was an Architect - during the war he fled his native Hungary and settled in Glasgow, before moving to Vizland.

A lot of Architects fled Europe for Blighty, which lead to Architects' registration - it’s all very well shagging our wimmin and drinking our beer BUT taking our jobs!!!
