Surprisingly (to me, anyway) the red clues do describe an actual musical that opened in New York. Given past puzzles I assumed that the red answers would be jokey.

I saw it as extract/excerpt = QUOT(e) + nameless I(n)DIAN, although to me nameless implies remove both Ns. Pretty clunky.

You must be right. I was at first trying to use NOT QUITE minus E as part of the fodder. Yeah, clunky. Thanks!

Thanks, buddy. I thought this was good fun. Found quite a few clues difficult, had to guess/sleuth many details of the show to get sufficient crossers to solve them.
I don't mind the self-indulgence, though I must admit having zero interest in American musical theater.
