A shout out for Robyn. Some splendid surfaces and so many of the clashes could have been resolved either way. A very neat final highlighted grid and theme word.

Agreed but I'm still slightly wondering about the theme word. At the moment I have 11 letters but I can't help thinking that 3 letters could be inserted somewhere into those. At one stage I also toyed with the idea of adding a 4 letter word at the end but rejected that. Any comments would be appreciated.

i went for the 11 ...split 5,6. It then agrees with the 12 extras and puts the missing letter from another 12 clues into the title.

The theme is not a single word. However, there is something very “singular” about the 12 missing letters……

Have I gone horribly wrong somewhere ?
(I am pretty sure the first S is correct.)

Fred 108, your A should be an O
'soggy bread' (3) + 'pastry (3) + 1-letter abbreviation
