A good puzzle this week I think. Rhyming pair, primarily, no Spooner.

On Steve McCarthy's point, I've not seen that questioned before but fair enough, innocently seeking a hint in that way does give away crossers, so perhaps we need to not use the crossers.

I agree 11a has to be 6,6 not 12.

My CoD is 8d. But many good ones.

(And I seem to be able to log in here again, good).

11a is twelve letters rather than 6 and 6 in the nickname of a London building.

As so often, the ones that I'm stuck on seem to have caused no trouble to anybody else! I don't understand the first half of 1D or parse 3D or 20A. Any clues gratefully received!

Hi Heleninglos
1d is both a slang word for home and for artificially inflating invoice values.
3d is a friend of the canine variety who might come from Limerick and pose conundrums.
20a think of a sport in which + 5 is a perfect score and that involves creating the number 8.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for hints. Kind of clearer now! Apologies Steve McCarthy. Confusing when eg Private Eye has different rules!

It certainly does - thanks. I hadn't heard of inflating values phrase, I hadn't picked up on Limerick, having a capital letter, and I'm not up to speed on that sport. Cheers.

Thanks for the hint on 6a Actonhighstreet@8. My underworld knowledge obviously wasn't up to scratch ;-) but I get it now having googled using the right search terms!

I have finished it (I think) but don't get the parsing of 4d and 14d. Can anyone enlighten me?

Albatross,
In 4d. 'cops' is a placement indicator, so the 1-letter abbreviation for 'good' is placed inside an anagram. 'straightened out' is the anagram indicator.
14d. is an anagram of 1 letter from 'labour' and 'I guess due'. Definition is 'manual'.

Thanks mattrom. For some reason I hadn't spotted intimate as a verb.
