I knew that gained was a weak part of the clue but the whole thing was just a throw away. I didn't think it stood a chance.

I'm sure it's happened to all of us but I was particularly fond of my toad clue, sweated blood over it and not a mention from you. Isn't that one of the joys of crosswords. I am a great fan of the Grauniad's Paul and others can't stand him. One man's meat...
