That doesn't seem to be this puzzle - there isn't a 5a this week!

I don't see 5a in this puzzle?

"On a podcast" suggests a "sounds like" clue. Maybe APPEAR, sounds like "A peer"? Although that'd be "seem" rather than "seems"...

Yes, it's APPEAR. The clue reads "Seem" rather than "Seems".

For the first time ever I can't finish an Everyman. Maybe my crossers are wrong but I've been staring at 14d for hours and I just can't see it.

Hi druh6sm. Not seen you on this forum for a while. Mind you, I've not posted for ages because I cannot login at home, there's a glitch with my broadband. I'm away in a hotel for work for a couple of nights and now I can login. How ridiculous. And on top of the problems caused by the switch over to the Observer platform my Sunday Everyman experience has become a pain in the proverbial.

Yet, here I am. Last week's and this week's are at the easier end of the spectrum in my view. I agree with the post about 4 letter words, I got one wrong today.

But overall enjoyed it.

Possibly your crossers are wrong. It's a fairly obvious athletic event.

Chrise they weren't wrong. I just didn't get it. Quite misdirected for an Everyman clue but very good. Thanks. I can now relax.
