Thanks for that grahamderek. It's much appreciated. I'm still somewhat unsure about the shape but will go back to it tomorrow. Am I right about the one on the left-hand side shaped like its first letter and is one of those on the right-hand side just 2 letters?

central 6, 6&5 on left, 6&5 on right, 2&4 central to form the....

Thanks again grahamderek. I want shooting for missing the central 6. At the moment I have that, nothing on the right and a 4-2, a 5 and a 6 on the left. From what you've said one of those is wrong. I'll now leave it until tomorrow and see if I can sort it out in the cold light of day.

If you have the name from the perimeter, you should know what you are trying to make

Thanks again grahamderek. I have the name from the perimeter and thus a song title which leads to a group which leads to what goes below the grid. I think where I'm going radically wrong is trying to create a shape involving/highlighting 34 cells using 7 thematic names. I've tried a geometric tomb, a sacred insect and a symbol of life to no avail. The next try will be using a shape represented by the group's name.

The last name in the SE eluded me and I put this aside for a fresh look. And there it was… Thanks to Kruger for an interesting challenge.

Thank you Mattrom. Apologies for the late reply. I had to go out because of a family emergency. I will follow the hint you referred to when I go back to it tomorrow.

My travails with this were very much of my own making because I got side-tracked by the various red herrings on the left-hand side. Thanks again Grahamderek for your help and patience and Mattrom for pointing me in the direction of Quisling's very generous hint. As usual when I've had so much help I won't be submitting it.
