At last! Been having trouble posting, but seems OK now. This was straightforward enough, liked the title.

Yes, this was quite good fun - though it was quite similar to the last time round, about 11 years ago. That one also had a good title - and some of the same thematic entries.

Agreed, good fun. I couldn’t find dictionary support for 7d until, as something of a last resort, I looked in the ODE where it is listed.

Good memory, Malone! I note the archive of previous puzzles on the Spectator site only goes back 3 years.

I have ?l?ice - either allice or plaice but which? And why?

Picked up rank - sounds like place, so plaice
