The clues...
Requests for help should normally include the clue itself, the number of letters in the answer, and details of any you already have. Any special instructions or additional information, common in Listener puzzles, should also be included.
Hints only, please, no answers.

The theme...
Assistance with the theme may also be sought here. It is intended that the help given should be on the gentler side - just a nudge or pointer in the right direction, and certainly not anything that would spoil the puzzle for others.
If you do feel that too much information has been given, please report it to the site administrator - email her at Nora.evoluted@aol.com. Norah errs on the side of caution, so anything at all iffy is likely to be removed!

The Listener is a unique puzzle and should be treated with respect.

Gridfill was straightforward enough, but the highlighting seemed quite daunting, so (as I always put my grids into Excel) I wrote a short macro to take a column number that I fed in, and perform the highlighting. Amazingly it all works in the end, but doing the highlighting by hand seems like it would be tedious, to put it mildly, Thanks to Miles for the challenge.

Quick gridfill, but, even after printing 12 copies and using up a lot of highlighter I'm no nearer seeing what is wanted. I must be missing something obvious. I've even tried shading all the letters in "one column" but that's no good either. Neither the shaded nor the unshaded make any sense in any of the 26 versions.

I'm in the same boat as you, cockie (albeit having adopted the software approach to the highlighting rather than paper).

At this stage of the week I often find myself reflecting on my favourite and least favourite end-games. For me the favourite was the origami WREN, and my least favourite was the infamous hare.

Oh dear,

As some of you may know, I have an artistic bent that means I particularly enjoy endgames that require a lot of shading and colouring.

However, after reading these posts my ealier joy has been well and truly tempered if, as seems the case, it's more a task for Excel than my art supplies:-(

Regardless, trooper that I am I shall persevere. (🎵rousing music plays in background 🎵)

I have a full grid, but have a handful I can't parse. I also only have 2 of the extra words. Is one of the extra words in either 22 or 42?

Probably won't bother with the endgame, sounds like a nightmare.

I’m in a similar position to you SH. Pretty straightforward gridfill but grid-staring isn’t one of my favourite pastimes so I’m going to leave it there.

In answer to your question, I don’t think so.

Sorry, I thought you put 44, not 42

Brendan, did you see the thread I started on the Crossword Centre puzzle? I even gave you a mention in it!

PS Sorry about the digression, I'm hoping it's not too intrusive this early...
