Yes, JS, 'appro' is virtually unheard of in Canada (as indeed is the Welsh 'ap' !). Since I moved here in 1981 I've observed that the whole notion of buying 'on approval', as my grandfather used to say, applies to virtually anything. If you don't like it, take it back and if the store wants any kind of reputation they will certainly exchange it for credit and in most cases be prepared to give you a full refund up to 30 days after purchase.

13D Local loops is acceptable, just that it's unlikely you would hear a phone engineer use such an expression here - I never have.

Phew done it now, but that's about as cryptic as I can handle. Have to admit that my heart sinks when I see 'special instructions'.

I love the special instructions puzzles. Completed this one while waiting for the broadcast of Don Pasquale from the Met to start.

Sorry but I as still confused about 26a. If I put SAVANNAH, it buggers up DETEST for 22 down, So is 26a SUSANNAH ? Does anyone spell the name like that.....seems it should be SUSANNA. And while we are at it, put me out of my misery with 21d. I have I? P?A? ?

Thanks very much, but a small amount of confusion still reigns. Does this mean that 3d is BELLOW instead of YELLOW, leaving 24A as METZ ?
