I have just got back on the Observer crossword site and managed to print off the Azed ...... anyone else managed it?

10a - Great number snubbing military hero (4)

I have the answer meaning "hero" and can see a 6 letter word for "great number" (also Roman military force) and if I 'snub' 2 letters I get the answer. Trouble is those 2 letters are not "military" - where have I gone wrong?

I haven't started this puzzle yet, but it looks like "a great number" minus a 3-letter abbreviation for "military"

Ahh, of course, as usual I was over-thinking it.
