... and the "company reflected" indicates we should enter it like it would look if it was reflected in a mirror.

Hi Bren
But wouldn't simply 'about' be sufficient in 1A?
And after the reflected company in 11A, isn't there another (unreflected) one that isn't mentioned in the clue?

Hi Phil

If you held it up to a mirror what would you see?

I found this quite tough but a good Everyman. I can't parse 2d at all if i have the correct answer.

If I've got it right, it's a poor clue. I've parsed it as 5 (bars) around 4 (source of merriment), but both parts are very loose.

Thanks Chris

I concur. A bit loose indeed.

I understood the middle 4 letters of 2 down as referring to a person - an old-fashioned term for someone who is a 'source of merriment'. So it worked for me.

Loved this Everyman - the best one in ages. Agree about 4a being a brilliant clue, but I can't pass 4d, even by reading it backwards.

4d is a double definition. "21" is not a reference to the other clue.

last one I'm stuck
17d For fun, circle that guy that's eaten pasty up (2,1,4)
M* / A / *H*M

so now I'm not sure about the first crossing letter M.

Got 17 now. The M was wrong.
Not the last one in after all.

Ah thanks Cern, of course! I was confused by an earlier post that seemed to imply it should be read up, or backwards.

RE 17, yes, your M is wrong. The other letters are correct. Pasty does not refer to the food item!

Good fun today, but all too brief (14 minutes). 16a is too topical for my liking, "High state" I thought was funny.
