Not at all, raffles. But is that particular meaning of the first word not seen outside the US?

I completed and submitted Everyman in one go but only because I solved clues yesterday, however I’ve just lost a half completed Gemelo grid… arrgghh!

From this morning’s Observer puzzle newsletter…

“Thank you for being part of our growing Puzzle community. Over the next few weeks, as we launch The Observer’s digital subscription offer, this newsletter will include a mix of items, some of which will be for subscribers only.”

While not saying so explicitly, this seems to suggest that the puzzles will be subscription only at some point soon. I think we knew this was coming.

Great fun today, I thought. Laughed out loud at 7d, 8d, 13d and 17a.
