1d Suffers retribution at first, framed by participant in hearing (6)
Incurs?

43d Being around notes on and off someone in pink (8)
Huntsman fits, and I can parse it (human around nts), but I don't understand the definition.

Both correct. The incus is one of the bones in the middle ear, containing r, retribution at first.

The scarlet colour of a huntsman’s jacket is known as hunting pink, and by metonymy, a pink is a term for a hunting jacket

Incus is one of the ossicles of the ear.

Pink is the name of a scarlet hunting coat, and also the wearer.

1D. I think the Incus is the bone used for hearing, , with the R from Retribution ( at first). Incurs, suffers.
43. I assumed huntsmen, people in hunts, wear pink( I know they dress up!).

Thank you. I've seen huntsman wearing red, didn't know it was referred to as pink. Also I don't think I would have connected 'hearing participant' with meaning a bone in the ear. Definitely got a wavelength problem with this setter.

Many thanks, malone. Washington I get, but I have never seen DC used in the other sense. I guess pretty much anything ‘can’ I would prefer ‘could’ be contracted to just its initial letters …
