Think they’re both right

Pills can mean the little balls or blobs you get on fabric so I guess with pills can be blobby

People continuing obstinately are persisters and then ostracise the a or per

Thanks Candledave, I've got quite a high proportion of 'right answer, can't parse' in this one.

1a I think the 'with pills' might actually be 'bobbly' rather than 'blobby'.

Ha - very good point - am sure you’re right.

I have 2a as 'sisters' and assume it is a play on 'insisters' but I don't understand how. Many clues these days I find to be not quite right. Can't remember the last time I saw a clever or witty clue, they all seem to be an unrewarding slog.

I have 'cyclone' - a weather depression. Could anyone tell me how the clue works though please ...

Unfriendly is (i)cy, ignoring first letter, and twin is clone. Definition is from meteorology

2a was dealt with at the start of the thread.

Thank you, quisling.

2a was queried by strangelybrown but I did not see an explanation ?

My pleasure. In the last part of #2, candledave suggested that you remove (ostracise) per- as in a (eg a pound a scoop) from persisters.
