Thirteen participants, with eight entries getting votes, and cleverness all around. I trust that bigblind will vote in the next three hours but mattrom has already done it again with her inspired clue @19:
Aspic on salmon may be a no-brainer (9)
The fertile spike got votes for three different entries (I especially liked his offering @28).
We’ve been seeing lion’s mane jellyfish on our island this year, usually stranded at low tide (our tide is typically about twelve feet) but sometimes in the water. The ones I’ve come across are sixteen to eighteen inches in diameter, but someone posted a photo of one that was about three feet. Scary enough, but I was startled to learn that this is the longest animal in the world, measuring up to 120 feet, and seven feet in diameter. Yikes. Anyway, here’s the prize:

Coincidentally, I’m reading Rhys Carpenter’s wonderful Beyond the Pillars of Heracles, about exploration of Western Europe in ancient times, and I’ve just seen that Pythias compared the northernmost Atlantic to a gigantic jellyfish (apparently because of ice sludge).
Best to all. You folks are quite something.
