Hi Yevrah,
7d parses 2,4.
17d if you add a letter at the start of the solution you’ll get a word for partying.

16A also a new one for me. 15A raised a smile when the gum connection was made. I think 15D is my favourite today. Is that COD?

Is someone able to explain to me why 10 down is seen in the garden rather than say stood by the mantel or responsible for the fire ? Having trouble parsing that part of clue having got the answer from the letters available.

Re 10d, there is only one definition in Chambers and it is that of a plant variety, hence the garden reference.

Hi all and thanks, Everyman, for an entertaining crossword, challenging at times.

Fairly sure I have the right answer for 16A and I think the first word means "bears" but I can't see where the second word comes from. Seems to be the name of a famous postman with a different middle letter??

Hints welcome.

Thanks

barry, I assumed it was UK GK and didn't investigate, but apparently a UK children's TV show?

Hi Barry,

Not a different but the same middle letter as the famous postman.

I hadn't heard the expression before but it means 'to play the hand your dealt' and 'to refuse to change'.

Really liking this run of Everymen. They somehow take me 31 minutes every week. They feel more cunningly and satisfyingly constructed than the simpler end of Guardian daily cryptics, so these hit the sweet spot for me where I make steady progress and rarely get completely stuck but still feel like I'm having to think.

Most enjoyable.

COD 6
LOI 24 - took ages due to having the end of 17 wrong
Liked 14a if only for the fact that as a fumbling youth I was one!

@Brendan - Boat drinks
