And you may, like me, learn a new word in the moving and barring, following the precise terms of the preamble about word lengths in the result. I live in hopes that it will serve me in future encounters with obscure answers….

My five new down entries are 2, 6, 5, 3 and 9. That's wrong, isn't it?
Also, moving the big block creates a non-word at 35a: ie it isn't in Chambers.
In case I'm not the only one who hasn't done this may I ask you to message me at ………. Thank you

Thanks again, guys, for your help. And, like Jack, I too have learnt a new word. Whether I'll remember it or not, well...!

I've been going round in circles with this since I completed the grid on Sunday. I have moved the block (I assume the one referred to is 2 x 2 and not 2 x 7) which I has left me with real words in the across entries but cannot for the life of me see the down entries and where the bars need to go. I'll go back to grid0staring later.

I've just had another look at this and I am kicking myself more than hard. I was foolishly (nothing new there) looking for down words connected to the theme rather than 5 general words including the proper noun.

It's easily done, alwayspuzzled. As you can see from the above I've had peoblems with this, too! All done now?
