Thanks, jono. I read Robin D. G. Kelley's long (and good) Monk bio and many other things, but never the wiki page. Didn't know Nica was pictured on the cover!
I read somewhere that Monk didn't dig that cover (or maybe it was posing for it), but forget the (possibly unreliable) source.

Monk wrote the beautiful Pannonica, which has become somewhat of a standard, for her.
