With all due respect to everyone else's efforts, the winner this week was so good I'm willing to call it one of the best clues I've ever seen. It works on so many levels. For those not steeped in Mario lore, Bowser is Mario's chief nemesis, and Princess Peach is his love interest/damsel in distress (originally named Princess Toadstool, fortunately for this clue she was renamed). So the surface is actually a reasonable description of the gameplay. And yes, peaches and plums are very closely related, as members of the genus
Prunus. And of course Mario and Luigi are plumbers. Both the surface and the cryptic grammar are impeccable. Brilliant, wil@40:
