The answer is BICEP which some moron at the New York Times presumes to be the singular of BICEPS. Good grief!

The 'moron' at the New York Times may have checked the word in Merriam-Webster, the US's 'most trusted dictionary'?

The morons at the OED also include it, with this citation among many:

1864 Let them go to the next meeting and see the glowing cheeks and the beaming eyes, the straight figures and the muscle (I hope I may be allowed to refer to a lady's bicep) it [sc. archery] makes.

I’ve posted this before:

IMHO it’s rather moronic moaning about Wordle’s choice of words without understanding their dictionary of reference

Also…

While the answer list is curated, the much larger dictionary of English words that are valid guesses is not curated.

For instance, plural forms of three- or four-letter words that end in “ES” or “S”, such as FOXES or SPOTS can be used as guess words, but FOXES or SPOTS will never be the answer.

To be honest, will37. That was my thought as well. Then I checked a couple of American dictionaries, and of course…well, you know.

It still bugs me when British people talk about ‘a bicep’, though.

Biceps is so named because the muscle has two "heads", in contrast to the triceps, which has three. It's difficult to see how "bicep" can be correct!
