Am I right in thinking that the unclued 39 is a word which some would find offensive? I ask merely to avoid using such a word should CheeseCracker have intended something more innocuous.

That’s certainly what I have, Will. I didn’t know the word but see that Chambers notes it as ‘offensive slang’.

38d, presumably there’s an apostrophe in urchin’s, so it’s an anagram of SEA + N inside US.

41a is not in Chambers. An anagram of RIO GOT.

1234, the entry at 24 D has to have a partner - that's the theme, MIX being a big nudge to 'anagram',Match meaning there's a pair.
