Nice set of entries for a word which was un-anagrammable.
Likes for the double defs of chris 2 and jono 5, aristo 16 made me laugh, tyke 17/jono 19/amej 24 also had nice "C+RACK" clues, liked the intricate wordplay in paul 30 and 45. Eider's late entry at 50 was also very clever.
But without any further folderol, hoo-ha, or palaver, it pretty quickly came down to either geting 6 or geting 40; both had excellent surfaces. 6 evoked the feeling we have all had before when starting a Listener; 40 evoked the times I taught my daughters to drive in the parking lot of the Kenrick Theater in St. Louis (now sadly gone & replaced by a Walmart).
I'm glad I did not have to choose between them, although I suppose 6 has a more universal theme:
6: Solve first of clues then despair (5)
40: Practised reversing vehicle in empty carpark (5)
Well done geting and thanks to all for playing.
(Is this not a great spot to teach a new driver?
