You won't have seen me posting here for quite a few months because I have been struggling with a severe loss of Listener mojo…
But I've managed to complete this offering apart from the final step — highlighting of “the cell whose number corresponds to what might then be due”.
The highest actual number in any cell in the grid is 44, but the arrival point and its 6 cell shortened name indicate a figure much higher than that.
There is a medieval Roman numeral which fits the bill, but there are three instances of this in the completed grid and several posts here indicate that the correct cell is obvious.
Am on the wrong track?
Any nudge would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear you lost your Listener mojo, jif73, I know that feeling. If you have the six cell shortened name then you know the location. If you google it with the theme you should find two options for the amount due, based on ownership by someone else rather than purchase, and the end of what the misprints spell. Only the smaller one falls within the parameters you identify

Thanks for the help, dodgepot.
It's been several decades (gasp!) since I had any experience of the theme, so I had a false memory of how to determine what might be due. I did what you suggested and I'm fairly confident that I now know the final cell to highlight.
Thanks also to Deuce for a very well constructed puzzle; obviously my favourite of 2025!

Thanks will37 and numbskull. I suddenly got 10D under my own steam, and I've got 32D apart from the two unchecked letters. It's the synonym for dope that's eluding me, despite (I think) having the misprint sorted out. I must be missing something and will persevere!

Oh, ignore the last bit.
I find that I had got the answer to 32D a while back but hadn't realised.
(I was led astray by results from searching on my answer---and I suggest that those of a sensitive disposition may prefer not to do this search!)

It's a really obscure synonym. Try googling slang synonyms for marijuana. Once you have it, you'll find confirmation in Chambers right at the end of the entry.
This is the sort of clue I really don't like: obscure words as answers are fine, but making the solution dependent on knowledge of very obscure definitions when more common usages are available seems both unnecessary and unfair.

I don't think it's obscure at all. It's a common enough term for cocaine.

Well, it's new to me. I was going on the fact that, unless you search for synonyms specifically for cocaine, it rarely comes up for other words for dope. And in Chambers, it's the very last entry of many and is given as American slang. I just think that there are lots of more common synonyms for the word concerned that would have made equally good clues that test the solver's ability to interpret the clue rather than knowledge of a specific slang term for one type of drug.

Was very late starting this puzzle, but now have a full grid, the down clues message and yet baffled by which 6 cells to highlight! I had hoped it might be Bond St (at the top) or Pall Mall (somehow then shortened to 6 cells) at the bottom, but I am obviously way off the mark. Any gentle hints would be much appreciated !!

Hmmm - if you’ve correctly identified and followed the instruction, it leads to an unambiguous answer.

Unlike some Listeners, you’d be hard pressed to find the answer and then retrospectively work out what the instruction must have been.
