My 8d is wrong, which hasn't helped!

Yes, 8d is in Chambers as an Italian language.
7d is a hidden answer as is 19d!
6a kind of nappy round 'not available'. Extra word is a surprising one.

Agreed Lumen, but no amount of googling confirms 19d, all I get is a heraldic term. I have the 6,6 highlighted, au struggling with the 2nd and 3rd highlights and haven't a clue where the digits go!

All done now - and very clever it is too. I found this puzzle (and endgame) to be extremely difficult. I find that the inquisitor is continually rivalling, and often surpassing, the Listener in terms of difficulty.

I agree with gitto - this was really hard to finish, but spectacularly rewarding. Who would have known? I wonder if they will ever reinstate the prizes.

Got the ship, occurrence, lines and seasons.
Complete blank with the digits and centuries (5,5), which I assume are linked, somehow ?

They are. If you know when the event happened, you should know what to look for. They are as far apart as they could be, and characters might do double duty as letters and numbers. If you’ve found an online diagram, you’ll know which goes where

Now sorted, thanks Quisling.
I had picked the “A” ending for one down, which broke the symmetry, and blurred my vision.

Quisling, I have just found the diagram which confirms that I had the digits in the right position. I think that there is sufficient information on the wiki page for the ship that allows you to get it right.

You’re quite right, Gitto, not least because the bow of the vessel is presumably its first letter. But I was grateful to see the visual confirmation!
