This, perhaps, was a little too niche, for which I apologise. For those who don’t know,Woodentops was Friday’s iteration of Watch With Mother and is also a derogatory term for uniformed, usually rural, policemen.

There were only a few entries but still some good ones. The winner by a nano-tad, and just avoiding a coin-toss is:

Dorrien’s Clumsy Covers @ 21.

For younger members, yes, children’s TV was that primitive 70 years ago and, yes, Andy Pandy (Tuesday) was that creepy.

Prizes will follow asap.

A trawl back to the days of Shippams paste, Bartlett pears and Carnation milk for Sunday tea. To the days when Waggon Wheels were huge and the nearest to beer was Corona’s dandelion and burdock.

This is how the Beeb spoke in those days. They all made Brian Sewell sound like an uneducated oaf.

An example of woodentops:

A friend was driving home from work in the early hours when he saw them following him. |He was, as always, sticking to the speed limit but he pulled over when the lights flashed. After the usual, “ OK Stirling Moss, where’s the fire?”, he was asked for his name.

My name is…

Detective Chief Inspector Davies and you are improperly dressed. Your tie is undone and you are not wearing your cap.

Yes, it was a bit beyond me so I sat it out, but congrats to Dorrien, the Canadian, for nailing it.

Thanks for the memories, swarbrules - rag, tag, and bobtail was always my favourite.

Your first clip reminded me of why I can't stand Brief Encounter - Celia Johnson made the Queen sound common!
