2 . You need the Royal Andrew and then the initial letters of some words (welcomes...) go inside. The definition is Rule, noun.

I'vejust noticed that I answered this clue on here less than 24 hours ago, but at least I've done only a hint today!

Mrsalad, no, it's absolutely fine - I lose track of which clues have been mentioned (even those I've helped with!).

My brain has stopped working! I just can't parse this one:

Be very critical about gutless party's childish habit.

I've got N-P-Y and the answer must be NAPPY (a childish habit) plus a gutless party is PY, but why?

If you pan something you’re very critical of it. About means you reverse it, so nap + py

Thank you, Quisling!

I'm fully versed in the art of the cryptic crossword, having been solving them for 50 years but for some reason the 'about' in that clue went sailing over my head.

Happy to help. I’ve been solving them as long. In your defence, it was a very smooth surface (maybe the choice of “about” rather than “of” was a tiny hint that something was afoot), but it’s very easy to miss such things. I know I frequently do!

Hi Malone

New here on the forum. Slow on these. My wife and I have been doing battle with this one since publication and finally finished it yesterday. We got Roost for 20D, but not totally sure why. Roost for place to sleep, but the "or maybe love, by the way" passed us by. Could you parse it please?

Morning, Cryptic... 'Or maybe' = anagram Or to Ro, Love = O, nothing and ST is Street, way (by the way, so alongside - Ro O St).
