Problems with 33A and 26D.
For 33A I have OU x x x AR x and would like to shade letter five.
Outsmart seems a good idea, but won’t tie in with 26D ?
For 26D I have xMxANS.
Will I sleep tonight ?

In 33A, your R is wrong and (letter 5 is shaded) and in 26D your N is also wrong...the wordplay leads to a four-letter word for "too hasty", with the third letter moved "demoted" to last and the first two letters of the entry shaded.

Surely the relevance of the puzzle is that it is "Inquisitor 1879" and that is the year that the person created his invention?

Re 20D. A maser is an amplifier. To mase is to use it. Energy gives you the “e” , so you shade “mas”.

Couldn't sleep so started this at 3 am - all done and went back to bed at 5.30 - lots put in without parsing - and made up a word for 3 across ! This morning all seems to check out except for my 3 across - the letters I have are -RU-B-LO-HS are these right? can't find anything to fit - thanks.
