London team spurned by Poles in the region (5) I have ?A?E?

May I also make a plea for hints or clues to the unclued entry at 1a from anyone who has completed the puzzle?

Thanks

Hello Gawdelpus
I think your letters in 10d are not right. Wordplay is name of a London team minus two of the common abbreviations for poles, defn is last three words.
I did not know 1a, but this is the one instance where both parts are in the same entry. Should be able to get first part if your letters are right, and make an inspired guess at the second.

Thanks Buzzybee, I’ll have another look at 10d. I was about to ask for the letter split in 1a when it suddenly hit me. :)

Well, I completed the puzzle but I couldn't find the entry - presumably just one entry - in Brewer which lists all the unclueds. Never mind; Professor Google was all I needed.

I was surprised to see it suggested that Brewer contained the answers (I don't have a copy). Seems a stretch to include them in Phrase and Fable.

Oh, Brewer's a quirky book, BuzzyBee, full of strange bits of serendipity if you spend a bit of time with it to find them.

Another thing about this puzzle is that it initially appeared online without a pdf version. So I banged off an email to the mag at 1:30am and the link duly became inserted by breakfast time. (I had a late breakfast.)

I also noticed that one themed pair was not in Brewer's. I have an old version (1981, which doesn't have any in it) as well as the 20th edition (2018) which I believe is the latest. It doesn't have the pair at 8 down, 33 down, but I knew it anyway.

Just a query if I may.....
I have a completed grid, including 6 pairs "born to sing".
I knew them from memory, but 30d /1d were new to me..Where are the unclued shown in Brewers ? I have 18th edition (2010)
I am not cheating, as I have all six names 😃

Jazzgirl, the names are under Pseudonyms. I didn't check them all, my edition isn't the latest.

Thanks Malone. I must have tried everything except the obvious . Some are missing but I am happy with my answers (via Google for 30/ 1d)
