Last one: Mocks the young troopers (6) S.O.T.
The answer must be SCOUTS (from young troopers). But 'Mocks' doesn't seem to add anything to the clue..?

Scout, verb, means to mock - it's in Chambers Dictionary.

Yes, many thanks Malone. It's obscure, but you're right of course. Merriam-Webster's quote is from Mark Twain. Given that it should have been in the 'prize' crossword.

Swalastova, glad I could help. Chambers says the word is archaic, so I feel it would have been fairer to have had some indication of that in the clue.
