2d Announced change for Union Station? (5), and 8d Dish carried by salver did you say? (6). I think the answers might be Altar and Entree, but am not sure whether I've picked the right spelling for 2d and can't parse entree?

You;re saying "alter" so altar is correct.

ON TRAY, sounds like entree

More issues about homophones in this crossword - often discussed in Pedants and recently in a clue writing competition where the winner used a Spoonerism that may not have worked in the USA and some UK regions.

I query the pronunciation of ON TRAY to equal ENTREE. I also have a pet hate of the often heard LINGERIE pronounced LONGERIE. The first syllable should echo VIN (wine).

In this crossword we also have:

County reporting reason for flock's abbreviated visit to woolshed (14).

This depends on LEICESTERSHIRE sounding like LESS TO SHEAR.

I guess approximations are admissible and we shouldn't be too pedantic.
