10a Tips for future nun to become a member of order (6), 11a Freudian concept - suggestion from Greedy Nan in briefest form? (8), 14d Flag hoisted, soldiers had to disappear (9), and 21a Fail to go straight out of town, ultimately: defer. I think the answers are enjoin, superego, evaporate and reoffend, but need help in parsing, please.

10a - tips for “future nun” is EN and then “become a member” is JOIN. Order Is the def.

14d - PAVE for flag reversed and then OR ATE for “soldiers had”

21a Out is anagram indicator for “of” “defer” and n from end of town

No idea about SUPEREGO

11a refers to an old nursery rhyme:

– To bed, To bed,
Says Sleepy-head.
– Tarry a while, Says Slow.
– Put on the pan,
Says Greedy Nan;
– We'll sup before we go!"

So sup ere go

Wow - wonder what the percentage of solvers was that got that from the wordplay rather than the definition??

I had never heard of it either. I took a punt on Greedy Nan being a thing when I saw the post. Not looked at the puzzle yet. Oddest clue I’ve seen in the Times for a long time. Almost a throwback

I've been left with the bottom left part of the puzzle, so just getting this one may help me get the others.
